Potsdam, Massena girls lax teams post NAC road wins

The Potsdam Central and Massena Central varsity girls lacrosse teams came away with NAC road wins on Tuesday.

Potsdam 12, Saranac Lake 9: At Saranac Lake, the Lady Sandstoners built an 8-2 halftime lead then withstood the Red Storm in the second half to remain undefeated atop the league standings at 6-0.

Jenny Tardelli netted four goals to lead a balanced Potsdam attack. Michaela Cole tallied three goals and an assist. Nettie Rishe (1 assist) and Hannah Drechsel contributed two goals apiece while Ally Miller finished with a goal and assist.

Bridgit Sullivan paced Saranac Lake (1-4) with three goals. Kylie Sapone struck for a pair of goals while Kaliegh Woodruff, Alaina Beideck and Marissa McDonough each broke through for singletons.

Katelyn Bloom had eight saves backstopping the win while Katey Snyder turned aside seven shots in the losing cause.

Now 6-3 overall, Potsdam return to the playing field on Thursday on the road against Heuvelton starting at 4:30 p.m.

Massena 21, Canton 11: At Roger Dusharm Field, the Lady Raiders raced out to an 8-0 lead then reeled off the final nine goals of the game to come away with the convincing win after the Lady Bears had battled back to make a one-goal deficit with 14 minutes left in regulation.

Erin Francis led the Massena attack with eight goals and four assists. Alisha Jacobs netted four goals while Dominique Valanicus (2 assists), Megan Hans, Abby LaClair and Shannon Casey broke through for two goals apiece. Ashlyn Olson closed out the Lady Raider scoresheet with a solo goal.

Katie Lapinski (2 assists) and Tess Knight (1 assist) anchored the Canton offense with two goals apiece. Molly McMasters (2 assists), Rachael Huntley (1 assist) and Kali Frank struck for the other goals.

Annalee Beckstead had four saves working the crease for the win while Meg Howard stopped 14 shots for Canton (4-3, 3-3).

Massena (7-2, 5-1) is slated to host a non-league game against Northwood Prep on Thursday at Mike Nicholas Field starting at 5 p.m.

OFA 11, Heuvelton 10: In the lone other NAC varsity girls lacrosse game played Tuesday, Nikki Holmes netted four goals and helped set up two others as the Lady Blue Devils outlasted the Lady Bulldogs. Mackenzie Bresett added three goals and two helpers and Kaitlin Sheppard struck for a pair of goals and Marissa Foster made 10 saves working the crease for the win.

For Heuvelton, Jackie Sovie tallied four goals and with one assist at the end of elusive open field runs. Johanna Carmany and Maddie St. Pierre each scored twice with Olivia St. Pierre and Ashlyn Pierce adding single goals to back Heather Thompson’s 13-save effort.

Potsdam 14, Salmon River 5: On Monday in Fort Covington, the Lady Sandstoners steadily pulled away from a 6-3 halftime lead for the win over the Lady Shamrocks.

Rishe had six goals and three assists in the winning effort. Miller (2 assists), Tardelli and Cole chipped in two goals apiece while Paige McCabe (1 assist) and Kalaigh Kingsley each finished with solo tallies.

Tewasherake Barnes paced Salmon River with three goals.

Bloom recorded just two saves in the win while Kierra Pyke posted five stops in the loss.
