Lisbon takes over NAC West second place; Morristown earns first win

LISBON - It was a duel for second place in the NAC West Division Softball race on Monday as the Golden Knights of Lisbon secured a 5-2 win over Edwards-Knox (4-2, 5-3) for a 6-1 record heading into a game at Hammond on Wednesday.

The Red Devils (3-2) will be looking to rebound from a loss at unbeaten NAC West rival (7-0, 8-1) Heuvelton 11-6.

Morristown (1-6) earned its first win of the season with a 12-11 decision over 1-5 Clifton-Fine.

Lisbon 5, Edwards-Knox 2: Morgan Baldock came into the game calm and collective to record the save for the Golden Knights after starter Alyshia Murray pitched five solid innings with a 5-2 lead striking out five, allowing three walks, two hits and two runs. Baldock fanned three, surrendered two hits and one walk as the Knights used back-to-back doubles from Alison Mitchell and Alex Amo and a Nicole Neadom single to push across two runs in the fourth for a 5-0 lead.

Murray singled twice in the win while Sierra Dobbs added a single.

For E-K, Harleigh LeBarge fanned seven and walked four in a six-hitter. Molly Burger, Makenzie Hall, Katrina Moore and Shaye Taylor singled.

Heuvelton 11, Hammond 6: Rachel Thornhill supplied a double and two singles and Hannah Thornhill smacked a double and a single with four RBIs leading the Bulldogs who scored six in the first and sealed the win with a three run sixth after Hammond plated four runs in the fifth.

Logan Tallman and Abbey Basford each singled twice. Paige McCormick scored twice as Alexis Weidner pitched the win striking out three.

Makayla Horton supplied two singles for Hammond while Brianne Langtry, Brittany Kron, and Gabby Marshall each singled once.

Morristown 12, Clifton-Fine 11: Liz Troiano belted a three run homerun in the seven run third inning where the Rockets took a 12-4 lead and held off the Eagles.

Troiano also singled twice while Margret Troiano smacked a triple and a single and Erica Fishel, Jessica Geddes, and winning pitcher Taylor Piercey (7 strikeouts) singled twice. Karissa Bertrand, Micaela Roberts, and Sam Green all singled for the winners.

Ema Hitchman supplied a triple and Cowles singled twice for C-F,
