ASSAULT - MASSENA - Village police charged Donald Huto III, 25, of 6 Brighton St., Massena, with third-degree assault, criminal obstruction of breathing and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child at 7:55 p.m. Sunday following a domestic dispute late that afternoon.

Police said Felicia Huto went to 6 Brighton Ave. to pick up her daughter, and an argument broke out when he also indicated she needed to take their son, and she responded she couldn’t because she didn’t have a car seat.

Huto reportedly went back into the house, grabbed a car seat and threw it on the lawn. She said her estranged husband then started yelling and swearing at her. She said Huto also threatened to punch her and eventually said he would kill her.

“When I told Donald he wasn’t going to land a hand on me, he grabbed me by the hair and began pulling it,” she said, noting she told her estranged husband to let her go so she could put the child she was holding back on the porch.

She said her daughter came over, grabbed the child and held him. “I then tried to get Donald to release my hair while struggling with him. He eventually began choking me hard. I could still breathe ... but barely,” she noted in her statement to police.

She said one of her female friends then came to her assistance as she was in the doorway to the residence pinned against a wooden box by Huto. Huto reportedly released her hair but maintained his choke hold until his father joined the effort to break the couple apart. Huto then reportedly punched Ms. Huto in the right eye. She reportedly suffered pain and immediate swelling.

Huto was arraigned by Massena Village Justice Eric J. Gustafson and released after posting $1,000 bail.
