High school baseball: Copenhagen edges LaFargeville

LAFARGEVILLE — Logan Marolf went the distance, striking out nine, as the Copenhagen baseball team eked out a 3-1 Frontier League “D’’ Division win over LaFargeville on Saturday.

Jake Nadelen finished 2-for-3 for Copenhagen (4-2) and drove in a key insurance run in the seventh inning.

Losing pitcher Matt Valin struck out 12 and allowed just three hits for LaFargeville (3-4). He also went 2-for-3 with a home run.

LOWVILLE 14, LYME 1

The Red Raiders scored nine runs in the first inning en route to a crossover win over the Indians (0-8) in Lowville.

Bill Larkins blasted a grand slam for Lowville (6-1).

SOUTH LEWIS 5, UTICA NOTRE DAME 2

Jason Martin struck out eight and allowed two runs on four hits in a complete-game effort as the Falcons rallied with a four-run sixth to claim a nonleague victory over the Jugglers (2-3) in Turin.

Martin, Shawn Loomis and Jake Vanbeber each doubled and finished with two hits for South Lewis (7-1).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 17, GOUVERNEUR 1

Jake Perry went 4-for-4, including a double, and knocked in three runs, and Marcus Shelmidine finished 4-for-5, with a double, and four RBI to pace the Spartans to a nonleague victory in Adams.

Troy Randall and Hunter Gillett combined on a one-hitter for South Jefferson (2-6) in a game shortened to 5 1/2 innings. Cody Modlin singled twice and drove in three runs for the Spartans.

HARRISVILLE 11-12, REGIOPOLIS-NOTRE DAME 2-3

Nate Weaver struck out seven and went 2-for-3 in the opener as the Pirates (8-1) swept Regiopolis-Notre Dame in a nonconference doubleheader in Harrisville.

Joey Butts went 4-for-4, and drove in three runs and Katosuto Sakogashia went 3-for-5 in game two for the Pirates.
