WEST CARTHAGE The Climax Paperboard plant was able to recover quickly from a Monday night fire.
The blaze, which started within large exhaust vents used for drying paper products at the 30 Champion St. mill, caused no damage to the buildings structure or roof, and only some replacement of motors and other relatively minor repairs were needed, said Jill E. Boliver, vice president of administration at Climax Paperboard.
Most of the repairs and cleanup were completed within hours of the fire, and the mill resumed producing paper by late Tuesday afternoon, Ms. Boliver said.
The fire department did an amazing job, she said.
Firefighters from West Carthage, Carthage, Fort Drum, Rutland, Champion and Castorland were able to contain the blaze within a half hour.
