Four people face drug charges after four grams of crack cocaine were seized Tuesday afternoon in a drug bust in a State Street apartment.
The four people, three men and a woman, were charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B felony.
Charged were Jason L. Pitcher, 27, and Margo L. Lowe, 32, both of 223 State St., Apt. 8; Robert A. Morton, 35, of 109 Woodlawn Ave., Apt. 104; and Brensley M. Gibson, 29, Utica.
Chris L. Cuppernell, supervisor of the Metro-Jeff Drug Task Force, said a search warrant was issued for the apartment Tuesday afternoon. Police seized 39 individual bags of crack cocaine packaged for sale and $11,367 in cash. The cocaine has a street value of about $4,000, police said.
Working with the Watertown Police Department, the drug task force investigated the midlevel operation for several weeks after receiving complaints about a high level of traffic going into and out of the apartment, Mr. Cuppernell said.
The investigation is continuing, he said.
All four people were arraigned Tuesday in City Court. Mr. Pitcher and Mr. Gibson were sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $20,000 bail each; $10,000 bail was set for Ms. Lowe, and Mr. Morton was kept in jail on no bail for prior felony convictions. He previously was convicted of assault for punching a state trooper, grand larceny for stealing a womans credit card and attempted burglary in connection with a break-in at a local tattoo shop.
