ADAMS CENTER No plans have been made for the former Great American Food Store at the junction of Route 11 and North Street, according to the sites new owner.
Its too early to tell, said Edward J. Valentine, who is developing the site with brother John P. Were looking at a lot of possibilities.
County records show Lowville Lighthouse LLC, Watertown, purchased the property from L.K.R. Enterprises Inc., Adams Center, in early March for $275,000.
The opportunity came available, and we came to an agreement with them, Mr. Valentine said.
The limited liability company is owned by the Valentines and shares a post office box address with Valentine Stores Inc., also owned by the family. Through Valentine Stores, Mr. Valentine and his brother operate about a dozen Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes throughout the region.
One of the Nice N Easy stores operated by the brothers is a half-mile from the North Street site at 17942 Route 177.
Mr. Valentine said the property purchase did not imply anything about the future of the nearby store.
Before making progress at the new purchase in the Adams Center, Mr. Valentine said, he wants to square away details of other projects currently in development, such as a Nice N Easy at Salmon Run Mall Road and Route 12F, Watertown. That project is awaiting approval from multiple state agencies.
Mr. Valentine said he did not have a timetable for developing the Adams Center property, but the plan is to keep the building and gas pumps that are currently in place.
Its a nice, busy corner that should be good for something, Mr. Valentine said.
Before it was a Great American Food Store, the location was Whites Quality Meats Plus, which closed in 2008. The Great American Food Store opened in May 2010 and has been closed for at least a year.
