MASSENA - The members of Team Memory Keepers are once again sponsoring a garage sale to benefit the Alzheimers Association. The event, called Finders Keepers, will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Massena VFW Hall on West Hatfield Street.
There will be lots of trinkets, treasures and a number of larger items too. Admission to the sale is free, but the team is suggesting a minimum $5 donation for purchases other than those that include the larger priced items. All proceeds will benefit the Alzheimers Association.
The event is an expansion upon the family garage sale that has been held at 5 Prospect Avenue every summer for a number of years. Last spring, the team decided to ask for donations from family and friends and move the sale to a large indoor area. The Massena VFW graciously consented to hosting the event, and the team was able to raise $1,000.
Because the event was such a success, the community will once again be able to shop for the benefit of the Alzheimers Association.
Team Memory Keepers consists of a number of family members and friends of Leon Johnson, who recently passed away from complications from Alzheimers disease. Since 2008, the team has raised funds and participated in the Walk to End Alzheimers held each year in Canton in September.
For the past three years, the team has earned top fund-raising honors in the Friends and Family category. Their 2012 total was $6,207.00, and their total since 2006 is $20,673.05.
Team member Lucia Johnson was the top individual Friends and Family fundraiser again in 2012 with a total of $3,826. The team gratefully acknowledges the many friends, family members and businesses that have contributed to their successful fund-raising efforts. The team will participate in this years walk in Leons memory.
