LISBON – Town Councilor Nathanael Putney, liaison to the Homecoming Committee, says plans for this year’s Homecoming are in the works but lacking agreement among organizers.

This year’s Homecoming is scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 17.

The first organizational meeting was held April 10, Mr. Putney said at Monday’s Town Council meeting, and between 12 and 15 people attended.

“They all wanted to put time in,” Mr. Putney said. “It’s looking good.”

Mr. Putney said that in the past, planning for the event didn’t begin until July.

Although planning has begun earlier than usual, he said, there is still no one in charge of the event, no official committee has been formed and there is no agreement on what events to have this year.

“They’ve had trouble getting it together in the past,” Mr. Putney said.

The committee has also yet to decide if and where they want fireworks this year.

Mr. Putney said the people who have shown up to plan this year’s event “have a lot of good ideas; they just have to get along.”

The overall budget for this year’s Homecoming is roughly $7,000, Mr. Putney said.

“If no one shows up [to take charge] we can just roll the money into the [town’s] fund balance,” he said.

Town Supervisor James W. Armstrong said organizing the event is “a thankless thing.”

The next organizational meeting will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the American Legion, 6991 Lisbon Center State Road.

“I’m 99 percent sure there will be [a Homecoming],” Mr. Putney said.
