GOUVERNEUR — At about 6 a.m. Sunday, Elizabeth A. Smith told family members she was going for a walk and hasn’t been seen since, Gouverneur police said.

Ms. Smith, 40, was reported missing Monday. Investigators took to the air Thursday in a fourth day of searching.

“We turned up nothing,” said Gouverneur Police Chief Gordon F. Ayen Jr., who was among those scanning the area from a state police helicopter.

Police said Ms. Smith is 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair.

She left her residence at 183 Grove St. wearing a red Mickey Mouse sweatshirt and brown pants, said village Police Officer Jason D. Whitton.

Police said Ms. Smith may be confused and disoriented but did not elaborate.

“We do not suspect any foul play,” Chief Ayen said.

Anyone who encounters Ms. Smith or knows her whereabouts is asked to call Gouverneur police at 287-2121.
