Former Northern New York Newspapers Corp. staff writer Christopher Robbins has been named a finalist for Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications’ Mirror Award for his article, “An udder mess: How the Atlantic Magazine got it all wrong in St. Lawrence County.”
Other finalists in the “best single article” category include reporters from Forbes, Texas Monthly, Philadelphia Weekly and the New Yorker magazines.
“What makes this nomination significant is that we produced an article about a very local issue and presented it in a way that could be appreciated by a national audience,” said Robert D. Gorman, Watertown Daily Times managing editor. “We know we produce quality journalism at the Times, but it’s nice to have that affirmed from time to time.”
The article appeared Sept. 23 in the Watertown Daily Times and the Advance-News in St. Lawrence County, which are in the newspaper group owned by the Johnson Newspaper Corp. Also contributing to the story was Johnson Newspapers writer Susan Mende.
Mirror Award winners will be announced June 5.
