JCC softball sweeps SUNY Delhi

Jessica Dobson-Tufo singled three times and drove in four runs, and pitchers Samantha Giruzzi and Lauren Youngs combined on a one-hitter as Jefferson Community College blanked SUNY Delhi, 12-0, on Thursday to complete a doubleheader sweep in Region 3 softball at the Watertown Fairgrounds.

Paige Morgia singled twice, knocked in two runs, scored twice and stole three bases to pace the Cannoneers (2-4) in the second game.

Lindsey Croneiser tossed a four-hitter as JCC won the first game, 7-6, against the Broncos (0-2) by rallying for three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in its home opener.

Jane Judware doubled and drove in two runs for the Cannoneers and Giruzzi tripled.

SUNY POTSDAM 1-8, ST. LAWRENCE 0-9

Heuvelton native Megan Johnson threw a no-hitter in the opening game of a nonconference doubleheader for the Bears, striking out four in Canton. SLU answered with a win in game two, rallying for two runs in the bottom of the eighth to get a split.

Johnson’s older sister, Heather, scored the only run for the Bears (6-6) on a hit by Carissa Cornwell in the first inning.

SLU (7-7) won game two when Chelsea Cavellier scored from third base on a bases-loaded walk to Cailyn Welsh. Cavellier and Aisha O’Connor each had two hits for the Saints. Heather Johnson went 3-for-4 to lead the Bears. Megan Johnson and Brittany Thivierge each added two hits.

SUNY CANTON 9-18, WELLS 2-2

Tina DeLuca and Allie Gibson led the Kangaroos at the plate and in the pitching circle in a doubleheader sweep of Wells (0-2) in Aurora.

DeLuca won game two, striking out seven, and had four hits in the doubleheader and drove in four runs. Gibson won the opener for the Kangaroos (9-11), striking out nine, and produced two hits.

Hallie Fenti homered in game one and Andrea Rogers went 3-for-4, including two home runs, and drove in five runs in the nightcap.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

JEFFERSON CC 6-0, HUDSON VALLEY CC 4-1

Four JCC players finished with two hits apiece and Josh Amann pitched six strong innings to lead the Cannoneers to a victory in the first game of a Region 3 East Division doubleheader against Hudson Valley CC at Troy.

The Vikings (1-1) received a complete-game one-hitter from Charles Parslow to earn the split.

Kyle Simmons, Calder Roggie, Erric Barnier and Nicolas Espino each provided a pair of hits for the Cannoneers (6-9) in the opener. In the nightcap, Mitchell Dubois gave up just one run on two hits for JCC.
