NORFOLK — A Chase Mills woman was taken to a Vermont hospital following a one-car crash Wednesday morning on Route 310, state police said.

Norberta M. Russo, 52, had to be extricated from her car after she ran off the highway and struck a pole at Route 310 and River Road shortly after 10 a.m., police said.

Ms. Russo apparently lost control of the vehicle, but investigators are still searching for a cause.

Troopers said Ms. Russo initially was taken to Massena Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, but later was transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, Vt. Officials at Fletcher Allen said Ms. Russo was being evaluated when asked about her condition late Wednesday afternoon.
