AMHERST - The Tri-Town Pee Wees skated to a 4-1 win over Palisades Sunday to capture the Tier III New York state U12 championship. Tri-Town finished the tournament with an unblemished 5-0 mark.
Drew Rose opened the scoring for the Timberwolves at the 8:46 mark of the opening period with an assist given to netminder Rico DiMatteo.
Will Arquiett netted Tri-Towns second goal with assists to Wyatte Roberts and Eli Kocsis at the 9:08 mark of the middle period and Andrews Lantry, with a shot taken while he was on his knees, scored with 3:40 left in the period to give the Timberwolves a three-goal lead.
Palisades broke Dimatteos shutout bid with 5:15 to go in the contest, but it would be the Predators lone goal. Lantry sealed the win on a play set up by Arquiett and Rose with 50 seconds left in the game.
DiMatteo recorded another penalty shot stop in the title game.
The Tri-Town Pee Wees will be back on the ice next weekend when they head to Shelton, Conn., for the national regionals.
