State Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, this week unveiled a plan called Grown in New York, a strategy to boost the states $5.2 billion agriculture industry.
Mrs. Ritchie, chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, said the plan developed by Senate Republicans is designed to increase the earnings of family farms, invest in the future of farming and expand markets for New York products.
The plan aims to reduce taxes and regulations, eliminate an energy tax surcharge, expand farmers markets and food hubs, get more New York-grown products in schools and government facilities, spur growth of the maple and wine industries, bring unused farmland back into production and improve farm safety.
