CORTLAND, N.Y. – The nationally third-ranked SUNY Cortland women’s lacrosse team used balanced scoring in defeating William Smith, 15-5, Tuesday afternoon in its season-opener at the Stadium Complex. The Red Dragons are now 1-0, while the Herons dropped to 0-2.

Sophomore Marilyn Farrell led Cortland with two goals and two assists, and freshman Erica Geremia contributed two goals and one assist. Senior Gina Campese, junior Taylor Robinson and freshman Tara Monaghan (each scored twice. Seniors Natalie Melaniff and Taylor Harney, junior Taylor Reh and sophomores Chelsea Martin of Ogdensburg and Emma Hayes-Hurley netted one goal apiece, while junior Liz Beville chipped in with two assists.

Senior goalie Shauna Hutchinson made five saves and allowed four goals in 56:53 before giving way to freshman Liz Ingalls who did not register a save over the final 3:07. The Red Dragons play Union today.
