To The Editor:
A $41 tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value is currently being reaped from the inhabitants of Lisbon. With assessment of an improved lot (one acre) above $8,000 - the reason being well and sewer - one can figure the sewers assessment at about $3,500. Thats $143.50 land and school tax for the sewer. Add the sales tax for the toilet paper, and it give you the knowledge of what it costs to relieve oneself within the confines of their humble abode.
Tile drainage in the fields of the limited liability corporations, the ones with the economically disadvantaged, illegal indentured servants and the industrial farmers, is an improvement, not unlike the sewer system, yet carries no assessment. This would make one believe LLCs and industrial farmers were under-assessed. In reality, everyone who is assessed tillable on their land without tile is over-assessed and has been since the first tile was laid in Lisbon.
