Three Akwesasne residents injured in Massena accident

MASSENA - Three Akwesasne residents were injured Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle on Main Street at Harrowgate Commons.

Village police said Edward McGraw, 77, of 1523 state Route 11C, North Lawrence, was eastbound on Harrowgate Commons, stopped at the stop sign at the end of the street and then pulled onto Main Street into the path of a 2005 Chevy Cavalier being operated by Tisha Shenandoah, 24, of 149 McGee Road, Akwesasne, at 3:47 p.m. Friday. Mr. McGraw said he hadn’t seen the other vehicle when he pulled onto Main Street.

Mr. McGraw, who was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign, had his 2000 GMC sports utility vehicle struck in the area of the passenger side front tire. The vehicle being operated by Ms. Shenandoah suffered heavy front end damage, and both airbags deployed.

Ms. Shenandoah was transported to Massena Memorial Hospital by Massena Rescue for treatment of a hand injury, and her grandmother, Evelyn Jocko, 87, same address. was transported to the hospital by Massena Rescue with a broken right arm and a complaint of leg pain, police said. A second passenger, Tyler Benor, 25, also of 149 McGee Road, Akwesasne, was transported to Massena Memorial by Seaway Valley Ambulance with complaints of head and neck pain.

Massena Fire also responded to the accident scene.
