PORT LEYDEN — Shawna M. Ferris, 29, of 7154 North St., was charged by state police Thursday with endangering the welfare of a child, and is summoned to Village Court.

She is accused of slapping a 6-year-old child in the face, leaving bruising, police said. Troopers and the Lewis County Child Protective Services unit investigated after receiving a baby sitter’s complaint Monday afternoon about the bruises, police said.
