POTSDAM — The Hop, a 1950s-style restaurant, will reopen in the village after being shuttered for seven years.

The restaurant opened in 1994 and remained a local fixture for more than a decade until it was closed in 2005 after a decline in business.

The building is owned Lawrence J. and Pamela S. Hazen, who originally ran the Hop and made the decision to close it.

The new Hop will have the same name and location, but a new face in charge. The business will be managed by Rebecca McDermott, a former server at the Hazens’ Maxfield’s restaurant who worked with the Hazens to start her own business.

The owners of Potsdam’s Thai Cuisine Restaurant rented the location in 2010 with plans to open a Noodle House, an eatery promising low-cost soups. Although a Noodle House sign still hangs above the door, the plan never came to fruition and the space has remained vacant since 2005.

Ms. McDermott will rent the space from the Hazens, but will own and manage the business herself.

Mrs. Hazen said Ms. McDermott has new plans for the restaurant, so it won’t be a carbon copy of the original.

Many details about the new restaurant, including its opening date, still are unknown.
