CANTON St. Lawrence Universitys Pre-Health Club raised more than $8,000 for childhood cancer research, surpassing a $5,000 goal.
The fundraiser, Clips for Cancer, accepted donations from friends, family and acquaintances of more than 30 students Friday. In return, the fundraisers had their heads shaved in the Sullivan Student Center as the public looked on.
The money was distributed to the St. Baldricks Foundation, which since 2004 has emerged as a major funder of pediatric cancer research, raising more than $30 million last year.
Last years Clips for Cancer had around 20 participants and raised less than $4,000. This is the third year St. Lawrence University hosted the event.
