BRASHER FALLS A St. Lawrence Central School student remained in critical condition in a Vermont hospital Wednesday afternoon after she and two siblings were hit by a car Tuesday morning, state police at Massena said.
Brittany L. Brothers, 19, was transported to Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, after a car driven by Camren J. Campeau, 18, crashed into Miss Brothers, Scott T. Brothers, 17, and Brianna Brothers, 10, while the trio were waiting for a school bus outside their County Route 53 home at about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, troopers said. .
All four youths are district students, Superintendent Stephen M. Putman said.
High school Principal Lisa Grenville told board of education members Wednesday night that she had talked with the chldrens mother earlier in the day. She said, at the time of the call the 10-year-old sister was expected to be released from the hospital shortly, and Scott Brothers was still in surgery for a neck injury. Brittany Brothers had suffered from internal bleeding, which has been stopped, according to Ms. Grenville. However, she remained on a ventilator because of surgery scheduled later this week to repair a broken arm and leg.
The childrens mother had also expressed concern for the well being of the driver of the vehicle that was involved in the accident, according to the high school principal.
District staff are holding a dress down Valentines Day event on Thursday, and the proceeds will be donated to the Brothers family, school officials said.
Troopers said Mr. Campeau apparently lost control on the snowy road. He was ticketed for speed not reasonable for conditions and failure to keep right.
