CANTON — A St. Lawrence County grand jury has indicted four people on burglary charges in connection with two separate incidents in Massena, according to documents filed Thursday.

Devian J. Fletcher, 19, New York City, and Matthew C. Malu, 24, Yonkers, were indicted on charges of second-degree attempted burglary for allegedly attempting to break into a Haskell Street home in late December to confront a resident.

Ogdensburg residents Lashawn J. Whitfield, 40, and Ashley E. Pike, 27, meanwhile, were indicted on charges of second-degree burglary following an alleged Jan. 11 break-in at a Stanton Road residence.

Court documents show that Mr. Fletcher and Mr. Malu were looking for resident Andrew Courson, who was home when they showed up on his 26 Haskell St. doorstep at about 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 27. They allegedly tried to open a door but found it was locked, and Mr. Courson’s girlfriend, Amanda Parmer, reportedly told the men to leave, and that she was calling police. She said she saw Mr. Malu pick up a shovel and throw it through a kitchen window as the pair were leaving.

Mr. Malu and Mr. Fletcher were arrested by police a short time later.

In the other case handled by the grand jury, Mr. Whitfield and Ms. Pike allegedly entered 27 Stanton Road and stole an unspecified amount of jewelry. Ms. Pike was taken into custody later on Hasbrouck Street, Ogdensburg, and Mr. Whitfield was arrested shortly afterward at 431 Belmont Courts, Ogdensburg.
