CRIMINAL POSSESSION WEAPON - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Michael R. Hibbert, 28, of Lewisville, Texas, with a felony count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon Tuesday. He was found in possession of a loaded Glock 22 .40 calibre handgun loaded with 15 rounds following a traffic stop initiated by the U.S. Border Patrol at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday on state Route 37 in the town of Massena. He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
According to court document, the Border Patrol agents stopped the 2008 GMC box truck registered to Moveline Hospitality, Arlington, Texas
due ot the drivers apparent nervous driving behavior, the number of occupants in the vehicle (three) and the knowledge that illegal alien smuggliung loads have originated from behind the casino, where the truck was observed prior to the traffic stop.
Agents, in their narrative, said a canine alerted on the trucks cab, and a search resulted in the seizure of the Glock. Hibbert reportedly calimed ownership of the handgun and said he did not have a New York state pistol permit. Hibbert was turned over to state police.
Hibbert and his two companions told agents they were working setting up furntiture at the new casino hotel and expected to be in the area for approximately one month.
MENACING - MASSENA - Massena-based state police charged Cameron B. Miller, 18, of Nicholville with second-degree meancing Tuesday afternoon following an investigation into an incident that reportedly took place on Feb. 1 on a St. Lawrence Central school bus. Miller allegedly threatened to strike a 12-year-old male with metal knuckles. The incident was reported to troopers on Monday.
