One employee union has a new, two-year contract with the city of Ogdensburg.

A tentative agreement has been reached between the city and the 20-employee Civil Service Employees Association-represented salaried unit of City Hall staff and workers.

Under the agreement, the workers will get 2 percent pay increases this year and in 2014.

Also, new hires as of Jan. 1 of this year will pay 25 percent of their health insurance - an increase of five percent.

Union President Mark E. Jacobs said Friday that he was satisfied with the new contract and the negotiation that led to its settlement.

“It was pretty straightforward,” he said Friday. “It was a pleasant negotiation. There were no contentious points.”

In other union news, the contract between the city and its 28 firefighters represented by Local 1799 of the International Association of Firefighters expired Dec. 31. City Manager John M. Pinkerton said Friday that negotiations for a new agreement are under way with no impasse.

Also in progress without impasse are talks between the city and the Police Supervisory Unit union that represents the police department’s two lieutenants and five sergeants.
