Watertown police said they had to investigate a mans alibi statement before they could make an arrest Thursday in connection with a hit-and-run accident Jan. 12 in the 300 block of North Michigan Avenue.
As a result, a second arrest also was made Thursday.
Andrew A. Wren, 24, of 324 Academy St., is summoned to City Court to face charges of leaving the scene of an accident and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. He also is facing charges from another accident that occurred on Christmas Eve: felony driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, obstructing governmental administration and additional traffic infractions.
Joseph R. Sawyer, 23, of 27219 Route 12, was arrested charges of offering a false instrument for filing, a felony, and falsifying business records. An officer said he found witnesses who contradicted the alibi that Mr. Sawyer gave Mr. Wren for the time of the accident.
Police allege that Mr. Wren ran away, leaving behind a rental car, after he struck a parked 2003 Chevrolet owned by Timothy J. Brennan, Calcium, at 10:05 p.m. on Jan. 12 on North Michigan Avenue.
