CANTON - State police and sheriffs deputies spent much of their day Monday responding to accidents all over St. Lawrence County.
St. Lawrence County Sheriffs Department Sgt. Martin Dumoulin said his agency responded to several accidents on Monday, but none that resulted in serious injuries.
There werent any accidents with any serious injuries that we dealt with, he said.
Ogdensburg-based state police reported three accidents, with one resulting in a minor personal injury.
At 9:02 a.m., Deuard D. VanOrnam of DePeyster went off the road while on County Route 10. His vehicle rolled over his vehicle, and he suffered a hand injury.
St. Lawrence County Emergency Services Director Joseph M. Gilbert said he wasnt expecting things to get any better as the night progressed.
Citing reports from the National Weather Service, Mr. Gilbert said the snow was expected to pick up and come at the rate of about an inch per hour starting at around 8 p.m. until around midnight, at which point rain was expected to start.
Forecasters also have freezing rain and sleet in the forecast before temperatures jump later today.
Thats going to create some icy spots, he said, adding the temperature wasnt expected to rise above freezing until around 11 a.m. today.
Massena-based state police were busy, responding to seven accidents, but troopers there noted they were all minor with no injuries reported.
The busiest station of the day was in Canton, where a dispatcher said since her shift started at 3 p.m., troopers from Canton were dispatched to seven different accidents, with a couple others where people were able to get themselves out and assistance was not needed.
According to scanner reports, the first accident of the day was reported at 9:45 a.m. in Parishville, when a car rolled over on state Route 72. Further details of that accident were not available.
Gouverneur-based state police responded to three-accidents, including one involving a bus from the Gouverneur Central School District.
Troopers said a bus slid off of the road and struck a tree on the Dane Road at 11:29 a.m. There were no students on the bus and no injuries were reported. They added the bus was able to be driven from the scene.
