POTSDAM A new sports bar is coming in March, promising gourmet burgers and craft beers.
Marc C. Morley and Megan Martin, owners of the Hot Tamale restaurants in Canton and Potsdam, are in the process of opening Between the Buns at 6 Elm St.
The menu will offer 10 types of gourmet burgers alongside appetizers and sandwiches, and the bar will be stocked with both liquor and beer, including some craft microbrews.
The restaurant will focus on quality and consistency, with a fairly small number of menu options, according to Mr. Morley.
We just wanted to keep it simple. Burgers seem to be a hot trend right now, he said.
The beef will be a blend created especially for the restaurant by a Philadelphia butcher.
Mr. Morley said he hopes to make Between the Buns a destination for both families and Potsdams large college population, with restaurant seating for those who want a family meal and bar seating for those who just want to have a burger and watch a game.
We want everyone to feel comfortable here, he said.
The pair has hired a chef, but will have to fill out the rest of its staff as renovations are completed. Renovations have been ongoing for two months, and Mr. Morley said the restaurant will have its liquor license by the end of February, in time to open in early March.
The building formerly housed La Casbah, a Moroccan-themed restaurant and bar that shut down in December.
Its something that Ive had in mind for a year, but I never had a location, Mr. Morley said.
He is renting the two-story building, and will be using only the lower floor for Between the Buns. There are plans for a separate restaurant or bar on the top floor, he said, but he wants to focus on successfully launching the first before beginning work on the second.
