POTSDAM The Time Warner Cable office at 22½ Elm St. is closing effective today, and that could mean a long drive for customers seeking to trade or turn in equipment.
While Potsdam payment locations remain at the IGA at 27 Elm St., Kinney Drugs at 48 Maple St. and Community Bank at 80 Main St. in Canton, customers will have to drive to the companys Massena location, at 277 Andrews St., to place service orders or complete equipment transactions.
Time Warner Cable is refocusing its retail experience and as a result the Potsdam cable store will be closing, said Stephanie Salanger, Time Warner Cable spokeswoman. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this change.
That means customers in the southeastern portions of St. Lawrence County could have to drive more than 35 miles to turn in their modem or cable box. The store closure was a business decision, Ms. Salanger said.
Our analysis shows this center was being used primarily as a payment center and we actually offer a variety of other convenient options for customers to pay their bill, she said. We know this interface is an important part of our service so we want to make sure customers know they have convenient options if they want to continue paying their bill in person but also have a wide array of customer service choices as well.
Ms. Salanger said customers can pay their bills on the Web, by phone or by mail. The company gave the two employees affected by the closure an opportunity to apply for positions elsewhere. Though there are other locations closing throughout the country, the Potsdam office is the only closure in Northern New York. Time Warner announced the closings in December.
