EVANS MILLS The Jefferson County Sheriffs Department is investigating the death of Keith D. Doxtater, 27, whose body was found Wednesday morning behind the Last Call Bar and Grill, 8700 Noble St.
Sheriff John P. Burns said the body was discovered about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on a slope behind the bar at Noble and Main streets. About an hour earlier, it was reported to the Jefferson County 911 Center that a man was lying on the ground unresponsive, according to a sheriffs department news release.
The sheriff would not elaborate on how the man may have died, except to say that theres no concern for the public. He would not say whether the man may have fallen or how long the body may have been there.
The news release also stated the investigation has so far determined there was no foul play resulting in Mr. Doxtaters death, and the investigation is continuing and awaiting autopsy results.
Adam Kirschman, who lives in an apartment above the bar, said he was good friends with the man. He did not want to speculate what happened, declining to say whether the man had suffered some type of injury.
Im very close with the family, Mr. Kirschman said.
Mr. Doxtater was the 2012 super stock champion at the Evans Mills Speedway, according to the speedways general manager Greg Smith.
He was racing super stock for a while, Mr. Smith said. He was a very fine competitor and respected. He was a local competitor from a local family and a second-generation racer.
Mr. Smith said Mr. Doxtaters father, Al, whom Mr. Smith said he grew up with, used to race, as did an uncle. Mr. Doxtaters nephew, Taylor, has raced in the legend class.
Several sheriffs deputy cars were at the scene Wednesday, which was blocked off by yellow police tape.
More details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
