Local colleges: Skidmore tops Clarkson in men’s hoops

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Skidmore College shot 60.9 percent from the field in the second half and went on to defeat the Clarkson men’s basketball team 65-58 in a Liberty League game Tuesday night.

The Thoroughbreds (12-5 overall, 6-2 conference) led 28-26 at halftime, but built on the lead in the second half, outscoring Clarkson 37-32.

Connor Merrill led Skidmore with 19 points. Aldin Medunjanin and Sakhile Sithole both added 14 points.

John Coleman led Clarkson (12-5, 4-4) with 24 points. Marques Charlton tallied 15 points and Jerry Coleman tossed in 13 for Clarkson.

SUNY PLATTSBURGH 85, SUNY POTSDAM 63

John Perez tallied 16 points to send SUNY Plattsburgh (11-5, 7-2) past the Bears in a SUNYAC contest in Potsdam.

Jordan Moody scored 13 points, Shamoy Mcintosh scored 12 and Edward Correa added 11 for SUNY Plattsburgh.

Mark Lake Jr. led the Bears (7-9, 3-6) with 17 points. Josh Lambert and Curtis Pierce each scored 10 for SUNY Potsdam.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

SKIDMORE 58, CLARKSON 45

Angela Botiba scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Skidmore (9-8, 7-1) past the Golden Knights in a Liberty League game in Saratoga Springs.

Leighann Tomita scored 18 points and Ashley Loggins added 16 for Clarkson (2-14, 0-8).

SUNY PLATTSBURGH 73, SUNY POTSDAM 32

Kathleen Payne scored 15 points to send SUNY Plattsburgh (9-7, 5-4) past the Bears in a SUNYAC game in Potsdam.

Dana Nucaro scored 12 points and Malone native Brittany Marshall added 10 points and nine assists for the Cardinals.

Jessica Kouzan scored 14 points to lead the Bears (1-15, 0-9).

MEN’S HOCKEY

CONN. COLLEGE 3, SUNY CANTON 2

Tim DiPretoro scored 26 seconds into the third period to lead the Camels (5-8-3) past SUNY Canton in a nonconference game in New London, Conn.

SUNY Canton (4-10) led 2-1 early in the second period after a goal from Trevor Wright, but DiPretoro tied the contest for the Camels at 7 minutes, 55 seconds of the second period.

Bill Ousey also scored for the Kangaroos and Mike Sinsigalli also scored for the Camels.
