DEXTER The search could take at least nine months to find a successor to General Brown Central School District Superintendent Stephan J. Vigliotti Sr., who announced his resignation a week ago.
Jefferson-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services Superintendent Jack J. Boak said the first two or three months will be spent advertising the position, and at the end of the process the candidate may have to give his or her employer at least three months notice.
Mr. Vigliottis resignation is effective June 30, and on July 1 hes expected to take an open social studies teaching position in the junior-senior high school. Mr. Boak said he supported Mr. Vigliottis filling of that position, and he recommended to the Board of Education that Mr. Vigliotti take it.
It was an interest he had; hes an experienced teacher, Mr. Boak said. He had had a discussion with the board about it and it seemed like a good fit.
Mr. Boak said hell chat with board members about the superintendent search process during their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 30 at the junior-senior high school, 17643 Cemetery Road.
Superintendent is the second administrative position the district needs to fill. The district has been without a permanent business administrator since Michele A. Traynor left last summer to work at BOCES. In the fall, the board hired an interim business administrator.
In a district this size, they need an experienced full-time business manager, Mr. Boak said. Im confident theyll continue. I think most BOCES districts look at all possibilities at how they could save money. In a district the size of General Brown, itd be highly unusual to hire a part-time business administrator because of the size of their budget.
General Browns budget for the 2012-13 school year is $20,829,411.
The Board of Education recently expressed an interest at looking more in depth at shared services and cutting costs.
When Mr. Vigliotti takes the social studies teaching position, his salary will be reduced from $143,036.40 to $65,303, but he will still receive leftover benefits such as being paid $18,979.83 for unused vacation time and carrying over 200 days of sick time.
