WEST CARTHAGE — Having been awarded a grant to fund a study of the proposed replacement of sewer lines and possible extension of Sewer District 2, the town of Champion board approved a State Environmental Quality Review and authorized engineers to move forward during its Jan. 7 meeting.

The board received funding through the state Environmental Facilities Corporation, in conjunction with the state Department of Environmental Conservation, “to help pay for the initial planning of eligible Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF) water quality projects,” states the 2012 Regional Economic Development Council Awards publication.

The engineering study will consider replacement of the sewer line serving Carthage Central School and residents along Route 126 and Cole Road and an extension along Cole Road. Bernier, Carr & Associates, Watertown, will conduct the study.

The town received the maximum grant of $30,000.

The board, along with Town Attorney Timothy A. Farley, reviewed the SEQR requirements and the board found no adverse affects to the environment would occur if the project does go through.
