Parents interested in joining their school district’s Committee on Preschool Special Education or Committee on Special Education may attend a free workshop in Jefferson or Lewis counties.

Workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 28 in Lewis County and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 25 in Jefferson County.

The North Country Special Education Parent Center and the Regional Special Education Technical Assistance Support Center will host the workshops to teach parents when to attend committee meetings to support parents and guardians and to help ensure the focus remains on the child.

Potential committee members will learn the steps to the special-education process, basic vocabulary, laws and regulations pertaining to students with disabilities.

Registration is required by calling the Northern Regional Center for Independent Living at 785-8703.
