WADDINGTON - It’s time again for the Waddington Sons of the American Legion’s “Come Hook Some Cold Hard Cash” Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, February 9. This year is the 12th annual installment and it promises to be better and bigger than ever with expanded boundaries and new prizes.

Veteran anglers and novices alike are welcome to join in the fun.

The derby starts at sun-up Saturday morning (Feb. 9) and ends at 4 p.m. sharp.

New this year is a $50 prize for the best decorated ice shack, so anglers are asked to use their imagination and get creative. The boundaries have been expanded to include the whole town of Waddington. They will now spread from the Iroquois Dam to the Coles Creek marina and include all of the connecting water ways. The weigh in station will be at the Brandy Brook Boat Launch- between Waddington and the Cole’s Creek Marina.

Over $2000 in cash and prizes will be awarded, including $500 for the heaviest live Northern Pike, $50 each for heaviest Walleye and Perch, 50/50, and numerous door prizes. Adult registration is $25 per person and children under 16 fish free. Prizes will be awarded immediately following the derby at the Champion-Hobkirk American Legion Post 420 on Fenton Street, Waddington.

There is also a kid’s bracket for the tournament. Any child under the age of 16 can register for free, all of the registered children will receive a prize and they are more than welcome to attend the awards ceremony at the legion.

Proceeds from the annual derby are used to support the Son’s charitable work in Waddington and neighboring communities.

Anglers may pre-register at the American Legion Post 420, Fenton St, Waddington, Uppstrom’s Bait and Tackle on the Rookey Road, or may register the day of the derby at the weigh in station at the Brandy Brook Boat Launch. Everyone fishes at their own risk.

For further information, please contact derby chairman, John Dinneen at 315-388-4360.
