CANTON - St. Lawrence Universitys mens indoor track and field team used outstanding depth and five event wins to run away with the team title in the 2013 St. Lawrence Indoor Invitational at the Newell Field House on Saturday.
The Saints led the eight-team field with 204 points with the University of Ottawa second with 106 and Plattsburgh third with 77.
The Saints got wins from freshman Adam Bankert in the 1000, classmate Spencer Patterson in the mile and Scott Smolensky scored first in the 5000 on the track, while Mike Scott won the high jump in field event competition.
The Saints also won the 4x400 relay with a team of Leif Frymire, the Ogdensburg duo of Jake Fredericks and Nick Crawford and Vince Maniscalco running 3:39.34. Fredericks added a second in the 60 hurdles in a SLU record time of 8.42 seconds.
Scott won the high jump jump and took fourth in the long jump.
The 4x200 relay team of Alimamy Kabia, Ogdensburgs Andy Fisher, Omaru Kabia and Sean Lillie finished third while the Distance Medley Relay team of Corey Hahnl, Josh Martell, Banker and Zach Nelson was second in 11:12.55. Fisher also tied for fifth in the 200.
SLU LADIES WIN
Carly Stine won the 500 meters and led off the winning 4x400 relay team, Ella Martin set the St. Lawrence record in the 3000 and Divya Biswall won the triple jump and was second in the long jump as the Saint womens indoor track and field team topped a eight-team field in the 2013 St. Lawrence Indoor Invitational at the Newell Field House on Saturday.
The Saints finished with 176 points with the University of Ottaw second with 137. Stine won the 500 in 1:20.10 and joined Cassia Hameline, Marissa Rescott and Jess Marini in winning the 4x400 in 4:09.80. Martin beat Wendy Pavlus record in the 3000, running 10.06.25and Biswall won the triple jump and was second in the long jump at 5.04.
Kristen Linder and Eliza Bell were the other Saint winners on Saturday in the shot put and high jump.
