OTTAWA - St. Lawrence Universitys mens track and field team had a big day in the field events at the 2013 Ottawa Super Saturday event to start the 2013 portion of the indoor season.
Sophomore Shawn Lillie led a strong showing in the throws for the Saints with a win in the weight, while the Saints also piled up top ten finishes in the shot put, and long, high and triple jumps.
On the track Ogdensburgs Jake Frederick had the top Saint finish with a third in the 60 hurdles, setting the SLU record at 8.51 seconds. Another former OFA standout Nick Crawford was sixth in the 60 hurdles. Norwood-Norfolk product Jon Eng 11th in the 1000.
SLU will host their indoor invitational on Jan. 19.
WOMENS TRACK
Ella Martin was the first woman finished in the 1500 and second in the 1000 and Jessica Tyree won the weight throw, highlighting a solid performance in the field events by the St. Lawrence University womens indoor track and field team as the Saints opened the 2013 portion of the indoor season at the Ottawa Super Saturday meet.
Martin, competing in races which included both men and women in the same race, ran 4:49.4, 11 seconds off the SLU record to lead the women and finish 15th overall in the 1500. She ran 3:04.67 to finish second in the 1000 meters, threw 12.51 meters to win the weight throw and was fifth in the shot put at 10.64 meters. Kristen Linder was second in the weight throw at 12.21 meters and third in the shot with a 10.93 meter throw.
