Potsdam girls blank Lake Placid; Alexandria turns back Massena

The Potsdam Central girls hockey team skated to a 4-0 win at home over Lake Placid while Massena dropped a 3-2 decision on the road to Alexandria in High School League matchups on Wednesday.

Potsdam 4, Lake Placid 0: At Pine Street Arena, the Lady Sandstoners built a 3-0 lead through the first seven minutes of the game en route to raising their overall record to 12-2.

Kalie Grant got the only goal Potsdam would need just 1:30 after the opening face-off assisted by Jordan Emerson. Kirstin Barkley made it 2-0 at the 4:51 mark by finishing off a play set up by Jenny Tardelli and Jayden Young before Grant closed out the decisive first-period surge two minutes later assisted by linemates Meg Stevenson and Ally Miller.

Kady Hart closed out the scoring jsut 1:26 into the middle frame off an assist from Kelsey Green.

Allie Compeau (6 saves) and Sidney Molnar (10 saves) combined to working the crease in the shutout while Tanner Stanton turned aside 19 shots backstopping the Lake Placid effort.

The Lady Sandstoners are slated to host Massena on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a late-season matchup of the top two teams in the Section 10 standings.

Alexandria 3, Massena 2: At the Clayton Arena, the Lady Raiders twice overcame one-goal deficits before falling short to the Purple Ghosts.

Taylor Hugon opened the scoring for Alexandria at 6:22 of the first period assisted by Jarah Papin. Massena tied the game five minutes later when KC Herne finished off a play set up by Chelsea Streeter.

The Purple Ghosts regained the lead at 3:34 of the second period on a goal by Ashley Dobmeier that was set up by Jessica Prance and the lead held until Carlie Leary connected from Raechel Davis and Katie MacCuaig at 5:37 of the third.

Prance broke through for the eventual game-winner assisted by Dobmeier and Molly Aznoe with 2:30 left in regulation.

Kyrsten Stone handled 25 shots for Massena (11-5) while Samantha Griswold logged 26 saves working the crease for the win.

Saranac Lake 5, Salmon River 0: No further details were made available at presstime.
