The Cape Vincent Community Library, 157 Real St., will host Three Mile Bay novelist Ellen Wiseman at 3 p.m. Jan. 24 as she talks about her novel The Plum Tree.
Set against the backdrop of the German home front, The Plum Tree, published last fall, is about a poor German girl who falls in love with a wealthy Jewish boy just in time for their relationship to be outlawed in the midst of World War II and Adolf Hitlers regime.
The Plum Tree and character Christine Bolzs life is loosely based on childhood tales told by Mrs. Wisemans mother, a German-born woman who lived through World War II and moved to the United States nearly a decade after the war ended.
Mrs. Wisemans novel, her first, is published by Kensington Publishing Corp., New York City. She will read an excerpt from it and have copies available for signing at the library event.
