WEST CARTHAGE After months of going through the planning stages, the name of the discount retail store for North Broad Street has been revealed.
In a news release Wednesday, it was announced Family Dollar will move its store from Price Chopper Plaza on High Street to a new building at 21 N. Broad St., adjacent to Paul L. Vaniers Chiropractic Office.
The 9,180-square-foot building will be leased through Michael E. Lundy and Kent Burto of Northern Developers LLC.
According to the company, construction of the store by Mr. Lundys Lunco Corp. will begin as soon as plans and permits are final. Northern Developers will lease the building to Family Dollar long term. The new location is planned to be open by September.
Family Dollar is thrilled to be the first store in this new shopping center, and we look forward to offering shoppers our everyday value and convenience at this new location, said Howard Levine, chairman and chief executive officer of Family Dollar.
The new location will provide more space for merchandise.
The building project is the first phase of a planned larger development by Northern Developers and Lundy Development Corp.
It has been proposed by Mr. Lundy that the parcel, known as the Johnson property, be developed into commercial property on 18.86 roadside acres, have multifamily housing units on the middle 38-acre section and the back 15.7 acres be used for future development. Previously, the board approved rezoning the area from arterial service districts to planned development districts.
Its great that a national company is expanding in our community. The work we are doing on this project is also the beginning of the larger development project, such as some infrastructure work and site plan development, Mr. Lundy said. The Carthage area can expect to see substantial growth over the course of several years as this building project unfolds. With the expansion, residents will have access to more options in regards to housing and retail shopping, and should see the benefits of the general economic boost to the community.
