BRASHER FALLS — The St. Lawrence Central School District’s Superintendent Search Committee plans to hold small, invitation-only sessions for members of the public at the end of January to gauge opinion on the top finalists for the superintendent position.

Superintendent Stephen M. Putman proposed holding public sessions Jan. 30 and 31 involving 15 residents and a number of educators. Mr. Putman said the hearings will provide an opportunity to acquaint the community with the candidates.

The committee hopes to see “how the people and employees react to the candidates,” Mr. Putman said. “Hopefully, we can get to see what some of the candidates’ principles are, what they stand for, how they interact with other people and what their beliefs toward public education systems like ours are,” he said.

Committee members plan to have five residents from each town in the district — Brasher, Lawrence and Stockholm — at the sessions. Residents most active in past school and community functions will be chosen, Mr. Putman said.

There are 10 applicants; committee members hope to narrow the field to four to six.
