CANTON — A two-time felon was in court for the second time this week after being arrested Wednesday following completion of an investigation into an alleged altercation with corrections officers last month.

Nathan G. Corbine, 23, was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, over the Nov. 21 incident in which an officer was injured during a scuffle with Mr. Corbine at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility.

Sheriff Kevin M. Wells said the officer’s injuries were not serious, but the severity of the charge is required under law because the case involved harm to a law enforcement officer. The officer’s name was not released.

On Monday, St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards sentenced Mr. Corbine to 2 to 4 years in prison for a third-degree burglary charge to which he pleaded guilty in October. He also was instructed to make restitution of $120 and pay $375 in fines and fees.

In August 2010 Mr. Corbine, then of Morristown, was sentenced by Judge Richards to 1 to 3 years in prison on a third-degree burglary conviction for a 2009 convenience store break-in.

Mr. Corbine was arraigned Wednesday in Canton Town Court on the assault charge and returned to custody in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
