A new book recounts the actions of several soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division at Combat Outpost Keating as they were attacked by insurgents.

“The Outpost,” by ABC White House correspondent Jake Tapper, also focuses on the development of the site in the northwestern Nuristan province, near the country’s border with Pakistan. The outpost’s location in a tactically vulnerable valley made it difficult to man and to receive supplies. A review from the Pentagon later determined the base should not have been constructed.

The book was released Nov. 13 by publisher Little, Brown and Co.
