October unemployment rates for 2012 announced Tuesday by the state Department of Labor show numbers in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties are up from last year.
Compared to October 2011, Jefferson Countys jobless rate for October 2012 jumped from 9.1 to 9.4 percent, Lewis County from 8.6 to 8.7 percent, and St. Lawrence County from 9.5 to 9.7 percent. In contrast to September 2012, Jefferson Countys rate climbed from 8.9 to 9.4 percent, Lewis County increased from 8.5 to 8.7 percent, and St. Lawrence County jumped from 9.5 to 9.7 percent.
The 52-county region in upstate New York also recorded an increase from October 2011, jumping from 7.4 to 8.0 percent. Over the same time period, New York states unemployment rate netted a slight increase from 8.0 to 8.3 percent. Nationwide, the rate is significantly down from last year in October, dipping from 8.5 to 7.5 percent.
