CARTHAGE — The Carthage Area Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its Memory Tree ceremony co-sponsored by Calvary Assembly of God. Bulbs in memory or in honor of loved ones may be purchased for $3 each from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the chamber office, 120 S. Mechanic St., or by calling 493-3590. There also will be bulb dedication boxes located at area banks, pharmacies and businesses until Dec. 7. The names of those honored will be published in the Carthage Republican Tribune.

The candlelight prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at Village Green Park, State Street. Inspirational music will be provided by the Calvary Assembly of God choir. Refreshments will be available at the Long Falls Apartments community room, 222 State St., immediately following the ceremony.

During the monthly meeting Wednesday, the board also discussed hosting a scavenger hunt and a postcard contest to promote local businesses and the area.
