Town of Hounsfield officials say work on the town’s Water District 5 is hitting its final stretch, with much of the pipe laying to be completed within the next month.

“It’s going along fine right now,” Supervisor Timothy W. Scee said.

Rachel E. Bernat, a civil engineer at Bernier, Carr & Associates, Watertown, said about 80 percent of residences in the district are connected.

Ms. Bernat said that of the 31,259 feet of pipe work that make up the new district, only approximately 1,000 feet are left to be finished. She said much of the work to be done would take place at Foster Park Road and along Route 12F.

The project, which has been ongoing since May, has been seen as a boost for the area’s economy, allowing for the possibility of additional development near the Watertown International Airport. In addition to the airport, the district serves portions of Foster Park Road, Route 12F, Route 180 and Route 3.

Workers also have the task of completing renovations at the district’s wellhouse near the Dexter Estate development off Route 180. Among the improvements will be the installation of new piping from the wells to the building, along with siding and roofing upgrades to the building itself.

Given the progress, Ms. Bernat estimated that the main line work would be completed by December.

She said the final part of the project, completing all of the connections for both the district’s residences and the airport, likely would be finished by March.
