Watertown Trust meeting on city industrial park project

Donald W. Rutherford should know more after today about an unidentified company that wants to build a 50,000-square-foot building in City Center Industrial Park.

Mr. Rutherford, the CEO of Watertown Local Development Corp., also known as the Watertown Trust, is meeting with company representatives today about the details for the design of the warehouse. Last week, he said he also hoped to find out more about the financing for the project.

“I get the feeling he wants to move fast on this,” he said.

Patrick J. Scordo, principal with GYMO Architecture, Engineering & Land Surveying P.C., Watertown, is working on the project with the company.

So far, a projection of its cost has not been made, he said. Mr. Rutherford surmised that the unidentified owner wants to start construction in the spring.

The company initially would employ 20 workers, with plans to double the size of the warehouse in the future.

Mr. Rutherford would not say what kind of product the company would handle, only that it would be a warehouse. News of the prospect first came up at the WLDC’s June meeting.

The warehouse would be built on eight acres behind the Current Applications manufacturing plant. It would take up two parcels and possibly part of a third that would be used for parking, he said.

Last week, the WLDC board discussed how the trust plans to move forward on providing and moving a section of nearby rail line, owned by the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency, to the site. They will have to work it out with the CSX Corp., said JCIDA CEO Donald C. Alexander.

“That can be a slow process,” he said.
