NEW HAVEN, Conn. Clarksons mens hockey team may not have liked how the nonconference portion of the season began, but the Golden Knights are definitely pleased with the start to ECAC Hockey play.
Jarrett Burton scored a goal at 17 minutes, 51 seconds of the third period and freshman Greg Lewis earned his first career shutout with 22 saves as the Golden Knights defeated Yale 1-0 in the conference opener Friday before 3,274 fans at Ingalls Rink.
Clarkson (1-4-3 overall) had played in three straight tie games heading into Fridays contest against a Yale team that had scored 14 goals in four games.
WOMENS HOCKEY
CLARKSON 4 - YALE 1
POTSDAM A strong start helped the Clarkson University womens hockey team to a 4-1 win over Yale in an ECAC Hockey contest Friday night at Cheel Arena.
Clarkson (9-2 overall, 3-0 conference) scored three goals in the first period and outshot the Bulldogs 17-7.
Danielle Skirrow, Brittany Styner and Vanessa Gagnon scored goals for the third-ranked Golden Knights in the opening period.

CLARKSON 3, NAZARETH 1
Adrienne Walker had 16 kills to help the Golden Knights (29-6) to a 25-27, 25-18, 25-23, 25-13 win over Nazareth in a first round match of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Potsdam.
Victoria Kirkemo had 14 kills for Clarkson and Maria Allocco led Nazareth (22-15) with 10 kills.
KEAN 3, SUNY POTSDAM 0
Dakota Pruiss led the Bears (23-17) with 11 kills, but SUNY Potsdam fell 25-23, 25-22, 26-24 to Kean (28-10) in a first round game of the ECAC Tournament in Union, N.J.

RICHARDSON RUNS 5TH
SUNY Cantons Justin Richardson finished in fifth place overall at the USCAA championship race in Lake Placid, earning All-American status.
Richardson finished the eight-kilometer course in 28 minutes, 16.5 seconds. SUNY-ESF won the team title with 38 points and SUNY Canton finished fifth with 186.
SUNY Cantons womens team finished in ninth place with 279 points. Stephanie Runyon of St. Mary of the Woods was the womens winner and SUNY Cantons top runner was Megan Mydosh, who finished 19th. Megan Morrow of Gouverneur (62nd) was the Lady Roos secind finisher.
