Even after a week off, St. Lawrence men’s hockey team has vaulted into the national rankings.

The Saints (3-1) are ranked 16th in the nation in the USCHO.com Division I poll and are 15th in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll, marking the first time St. Lawrence has been nationally ranked since March 2009.

The Saints won two games at Maine, 5-0 and 5-1 on Oct. 19 and 20 after splitting a two-game set at No. 11 Western Michigan Oct. 12-13.

Other nationally ranked teams in the ECAC include No. 6 Cornell (2-0-0), No. 10 Union (3-1-1) and No. 13 Harvard (1-0-0).

St. Lawrence returns to action this week in its home opener as they’ll host Alabama-Huntsville on Friday and Saturday at Appleton Arena with both games at 7 p.m.

Former Saints coach Joe Marsh will be honored for his contributions to the program, the university and college hockey over his 26-year career, first with a dinner in his honor on Thursday night.

Marsh will also be honored between the first and second periods of Friday’s game and former players will take part in an alumni game Friday afternoon.
