Hammond sweeps Clifton-Fine booters; E-K, Heuvelton, Morristown Boys prevail, H-D girls win

Hammond secured a sweep over Clifton-Fine in NAC Boys (3-0) and Girls (2-1) West Division Soccer play in Monday filled with close decisions. The Heuvelton Boys dropped Harrisville 1-0 while Morristown dropped Hermon-DeKalb 3-2 and Edwards-Knox nipped Lisbon 2-1. The Harrisville Girls earned a scoreless tie with Heuvelton and Hermon-DeKalb rolled past Morristown 7-1.

BOYS SOCCER

Heuvelton 1, Harrisville 0: The Bulldogs (8-3-1, 7-3 14 points NAC West) checked the Pirates (9-4, 9-2 18 points NAC West) as Aaron Cobb produced the lone goal from Jeff Arquitt in the 51st minute. Chris Power stopped 11 shots for Heuvelton and received help from the crossbar on a header from Joe Butts in the 75th minute of play. Zane Mono had seven saves for Harrisville.

Morristown 3, Hermon-DeKalb 1: Dakota Marshall scored all three goals for Morristown - two unassisted in the second half - to improve the visiting Rockets to 4-4-1 in the NAC West. Dalton Hersey provided the only assist in the game when Marshall took a feed from Hersey at the 25 and chipped a ball over Brad Weller’s extended arms in the 27th minute.

Cameron Hance scored midway through the second half for H-D (3-9, 3-7 NAC West) as Steve Gilbert logged the assists.

Edwards-Knox 2, Lisbon 1: Brent Archer scored off a direct kick from Chris Davison in the 72nd minute for the game-winner for the Cougars (6-4, 6-3 NAC 12 points West) who stopped the Knights’ (8-2-1, 7-2-1 15 points NAC West) six-game winning streak. Adam Felt scored on a penalty kick for Lisbon in the 48th minute but Ryan Gollinger tied the game from Jesse Bullock six minutes later. Kaden Dandrow had six saves for E-K and Jimmy Robinson made five stops for Lisbon.

Hammond 3, Clifton-Fine 0: Tristen Simons connected from Matt Martin in the closing minute of the first half for the Red Devils (2-9, 2-8 NAC West)against Eagles (0-8 NAC West). Colin Martin scored from Nolan Martin and Jon Winchester connected unassisted in the second half as Darin Bresett made four saves in the shutout. Matt Russell stopped 14 shots for Clifton-Fine.

GIRLS SOCCER

Hammond 2, Clifton-Fine 1: Courtney Bova’s only goal of the game, from Tayler Bowman in the 53rd minute,gave the Red Devils (6-5, 6-4 NAC West) a 2-0 lead against the Eagles (1-8, 1-8). Alyssa Crosby opened scoring in the 34th minute from Julia Krysiak.

Alexis Pomerville scored unassisted in the 68th minute for Clifton-Fine. Brianna Langtry made 12 saves for Hammond and Lindsey Johnson stopped 18 shots for Clifton-Fine.

Hermon-DeKalb 7, Morristown 1: The Demons scored in third minute of the game when Brooke Woodrow scored unassisted. Hermon-DeKalb would follow with six more before halftime to improve to 6-4, 5-4 in NAC West over Morristown (0-10, 0-10).

Morgan Stott scored the game winner from Woodrow in the 13. She ended the contest with three goals while Sadie Smith, Rhys Bryant, Kasey O’Donnell, and Woodrow all scored once. Jessica Geddes scored unassisted for Morristown late in the first half.

Bryant and Rebecca Mathews had eight saves for H-D.

Karissa Bertrand made 10 saves for Morristown.

Heuvelton 0, Harrisville 0: Morgan Keenan made two saves for the Bulldogs (10-2-1, 9-1-1 NAC) and Samantha Rounds collected nine saves for Harrisville (8-3-1, 7-2-1 NAC West).
